I’m off to RomCon, the romance readers convention in Colorado. I’ve never been, but so many of my author friends have told me it’s a fabulous venue to meet readers, so when they invited me as one of the romantic suspense authors, I said sure!
One of the events I’m involved with “Super Sleuth” were me and 12 other authors will be participating in a Clue-like game. I’m the emcee and received the rules of the game tonight — wow. Someone with an incredible imagination came up with this! I hope I can do it justice.
There are many other events, split up by genre. There’s also a “speed dating” event where readers can talk to their favorite authors for a couple minutes before the bell rings and they hop over to the next author. I’m a bit nervous about that one … not because I can’t talk to just about anyone, but because I fear no one will be in my line.
RomCon doesn’t have book sales, which surprised me, and authors are expected to bring a lot of “swag” and books. I have a small suitcase full of Lucy Kincaid books! Plus, I created a DVD with my indie book titles and an exclusive excerpt to COLD SNAP, the 7th Lucy Kincaid book that comes out on October 29. Because so many people have e-readers, I thought giving away digital books would be a good idea. I hope!
Have you gone to a predominately READERS conference like RomCon and Bouchercon? A local event? What did you think? Do you enjoy meeting authors, or think we should just lock ourselves in our rooms and write? LOL.
Anyway, I’m traveling most of the morning, but will check in later to chat about reader conferences and anything else you want to talk about.
